This article asks a good question. Where are the Muslim athletes? There are Muslim athletes, but none of them seem to want to step up the way that Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul Jabbar did. It may be that they feel it will hurt their marketability or maybe they just want to fly below the radar, but fact remains it's easier for our neighbors to have a more favorable view of Muslims and even be more receptive to Islam when they are cheering on a Muslim athlete.
